Domaine les Tisseyres is a charming country residence set in the midst of idyllic landscape just 25 minutes south west of Carcassonne and 1 hour south east of Toulouse. The rolling hills around Fanjeaux, the closest village, are famed for their beauty and ever since St Dominic saw a shooting star here, inspiring the building of a monastery, people have travelled far and wide to visit the area.

Situated in an opportune spot to visit the famed Cathar castles, the medieval fortifications of Carcassonne, a selection of beautiful towns such as Limoux and Mirepoix with the Mediterranean coast at Narbonne and the Pyrenees each only 45mins drive away, there is no shortage of things to see and do. Alternatively you may simply wish to make the most of our lovely climate, relaxing by the pool, enjoying bbqs on the terrace and going for walks in the hills right on our doorstep.

For the more active visitor, we can recommend places to go horse-riding, hiking or descend into underground grottos. And to those whose adventurous side extends to their palates, we can suggest good places for wine tasting and sampling the local cuisine. Domaine les Tisseyres sits in the Cabardès region, named after the Lords of Cabaret who defended the Châteaux de Lastours against Simon de Montfort in 1209. Despite the name's medieval origins, this appellation is one of the youngest in France, having only become official in February 1999. Limoux, to the east is famed for its reasonable but good quality sparkling wine, Blanquette de Limoux, some of which have been known to beat champagne in blind tastings.

As you can see from the galleries this is not so much a gite as a fully fledged home, lovingly restored and furnished with local antiques and curiosities, complemented by an outdoor space able to keep kids and adults alike happy for many hours in the summer sun.

Further Details Indoors: The house consists of 5 bedrooms with various combinations of single and double beds on offer. Whilst a total of 10 guests split across 5 bedrooms (two in each) is the most spacious option, using the sofa bed and extra beds provided we can accommodate up to 14 people in total (5 double beds maximum including the sofa bed, the rest singles).

Starting at the top of the house, you have the chapel room, named after the line of work pursued by the carpenter who constructed the impressive set of beams (he was usually to be found in cathedrals and churches). With its stunning views over the valley to the north and the Black Mountains, it has been furnished as both a spacious bedroom as well as a fantastic day room in which to read or enjoy a quiet drink away from the house's hubbub. On the same floor you will find the cosy sleigh-bedded twin room and a single room which can also be used as a double thanks to the extending bed. A stylish wood encased bath and shower-room tops off this floor.

Below, on the first floor you will find the other two bedrooms, one double and one twin (whose beds can purposefully be combined into a double if you wish) both facing south and therefore enjoying the morning sun, overlooking the garden and surrounding fields. This floor is served by a bath and shower room and separate WC.

Descending down the main staircase you have the ground floor with its ample dining room, living room with fireplace, TV and DVD centre and the summer kitchen which in turn opens up onto the pool.

With a pool measuring 9m by 3m and plenty of space for sun loungers, bbq, table tennis and basketball, the outdoor area is completed by a large private garden which can accommodate games of football, rounders and the like.

All rates are in British Pounds. When you are ready to confirm your reservation, a 30% deposit of the overall total is payable. The preferred method is by bank transfer. When the transfer has been made, the booking is confirmed and we no longer field enquiries for that period and it gets blocked out on our bookings calendar. This deposit is non refundable. The balance of the total is due 8 weeks prior to your arrival.

Rates are subject to change without prior notice. Between May and October, Domaine les Tisseyres is only available on a weekly basis. You can arrive anytime after 4pm on Saturday and have to vacate the following Saturday by 10am. During any other month we may be able to accommodate different times and periods. The following are included in the rental price: electricity, gas and water use of bed linen, bath and pool towels Cleaning costs are not included, amounting to €50 per week, regardless of the number of guests staying. The house is fully equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, satellite TV, DVD player, stereo, barbeque, cot, high-chair and WiFi. Whilst the pool is for your private use (this is a single group booking house so no other gites are connected to us) the owners reserve the right to use it as well, using discretion and non intrusiveness. Upon arrival a breakage-deposit of €250 in cash is to be handed to the owners, returned in its entirety on departure day should there have been no damage done during the stay.
